Employer coverage

New York State businesses with four or more employees must provide job descriptions and compensation ranges for designated opportunities. The law applies to private sector employers.

Covered opportunities and location

The law covers designated job opportunities, promotions, and transfers. Positions performed in New York City may also be subject to NYC's Pay Transparency Law.

Complaint process

Employees or applicants who believe their employer violated the law may file a complaint with the NYS Department of Labor. Retaliation is prohibited.
